I haven’t been sleeping well lately.
There are a lot of reasons for this, most significantly a major project I’m running at work. I’ve been working on this thing for almost a year now, and it’s finally coming to fruition. You know how it goes – you work on something for so long, and then when it’s down to the wire it suddenly feels real. And kind of scary.
Logically speaking, I know this has been adding to my stress levels of late. I have made a conscious effort to properly disconnect from work at the end of the day and not think about it too much thereafter.
And yet, my insomnia persisted. There are fewer things more frustrating than being dead tired and not being able to fall asleep.
Well into last night – my third night of restlessness with precious little quality sleep – I decided to call out the big guns. Clearly my efforts to relax hadn’t been working and I was missing something.
I ended up with two readings, where the tarot cards I needed basically flew out of the deck and said, “Pick me!”
I won’t go into specifics, but the message was clear. (We’re talking four major arcana cards, and two very clear cups cards to boot!) The short of it: the things that have been preventing me from sleeping are the things I’ve been wilfully ignoring.
As if that wasn’t clear enough, my oracle cards hit it home with the ‘Freedom’ card.
“I possess the power and the free will to create my own happiness.”
Okay then. Message definitely received. And I am happy to report that I did manage to sleep after those readings.
Thinking about the past few days in hindsight, the true lesson here is that we receive messages all the time if we choose to accept them. There are some aspects of my life that I have opted to ignore, putting them in the ‘too hard’ basket instead of making an effort to resolve them. Anyone who has ever, say, had a weight problem or an addiction issue knows that this can only last so long before it starts creeping back into your life.
Had I bothered to open my eyes to the messages I’ve been receiving in other ways, I might not have been in this situation.
And yet, I’m also thankful because this experience also confirms that our spirit guides don’t just give up on us. Sometimes they’ll smack you in the face in the best way they can. Let me tell you – making me not sleep at a time when being well rested is vital to my work is definitely a great way to (no pun intended) give me a wakeup call!
In short, open yourself to the messages your spirit guides are trying to send to you. Messages don’t just come to us through tarot or in dreams. They often manifest themselves in other ways, and it’s up to us to welcome them as they come.
